Doll Quilt Tutorial - Simple Simon and Co.

Today we've got Elizabeth from Simple Simon and Co. - one of my very favorite blogs!  The things they sew over there... it's amazing!  She's got such a cute gift idea for the doll-lover in your life.

At our house I have a girlie who just had a birthday and received her dear friend Kit, one of the American Girl dolls. And well, Kit has been played with and played with...and so we are busy at our house making some accessories for her. So, this last week, my girlie and I made Miss Kit a quilted blanket out of two fat quarters.

I love special gifts like this because I absolutely know that it will get played with over and over. So, if a girl in your life is getting a baby doll or a bigger doll for the upcoming holidays---a fat quarter doll quilt is the perfect gift. I do also love to make them because there are only 4 steps---which is totally my kind of an afternoon sewing project.
Here's what you need to do...

materials

step 1

step 2
Step 2: Starting in the middle, and lengthening your stitch length to a 3.5 sew straight lines down your fabric. (You can use a walking foot if you have thick batting, but normal thinner batting should do just fine in your machine.)

step 3

step 4

I have an easy binding tutorial here if you have never made or used quilt binding but you can also use double fold bias tape that you buy at the store if that is easier. Whatever floats your boat ;)
Enjoy your doll quilts that you will want to make 1 or 500 of. (I love straight-line quilting---I think it's therapeutic.)
